About This Project

Viola

Violist Jen Clare Paulson made her way up to Madison from Chicagoland to get her doctorate in performance at UW-Madison with a minor in jazz studies. Her intention was to gain more experience in chamber music as a member of the graduate string quartet and learn more about the wild sounds she’d been making with some of Chicago’s leading free jazz improvisors in groups like Kyle Bruckmann’s Wrack and Ken Vandermark’s Audio One. Since then she has added bluegrass fiddle with Milkhouse Radio and The Kerosene Healers to her long list of wide ranging projects. She’s always had a wandering eye and ear when it comes to music and loves the way Graminy makes her use every inch of accumulated experience, adding to it along the way. JCP is also a member of The Madison Symphony Orchestra, teaches out of her own studio as well as The Madison Music Foundry, and works at Spruce Tree Music and Repair – repairing and restoring new and vintage string instruments.
